50 Hour Aerial Yoga Teacher Training Course
Aerial yoga, also known as anti-gravity or flying yoga, is a unique form of yoga that incorporates the use of a hammock or aerial silk suspended from the ceiling. It combines traditional yoga poses, Pilates, and acrobatic movements with the support of the hammock to create a dynamic and gravity-defying practice.
In aerial yoga, the hammock is used as a prop to assist, challenge, and deepen the yoga practice. The hammock is made of a strong and stretchy fabric that is securely hung from the ceiling, typically at hip height or higher. The practitioner uses the hammock to support their body weight, allowing for a variety of poses and movements that are not typically accessible on the ground.
During an aerial yoga class, practitioners perform a sequence of poses that can include both traditional yoga postures and specific aerial yoga poses. The hammock is used for support and balance, and to deepen stretches and strengthen muscles. Aerial yoga can involve inversions, flips, and tricks, as well as traditional floor-based yoga postures modified to incorporate the hammock.

Aerial yoga offers several benefits for the mind, body, and overall well-being. Some of the key benefits of aerial yoga include:
- Decompression and Spinal Health: The use of the hammock in aerial yoga allows for gentle traction and decompression of the spine, helping to alleviate compression and tension in the vertebrae. This can improve spinal flexibility, relieve back pain, and promote better posture.
- Increased Flexibility and Range of Motion: Aerial yoga incorporates a variety of poses and stretches that target different muscle groups, leading to improved flexibility and increased range of motion. The hammock provides support, allowing practitioners to deepen stretches and achieve poses that may be challenging on the ground.
- Core Strength and Stability: Aerial yoga requires engaging the core muscles to maintain balance and stability while performing poses and transitions. Regular practice can help strengthen the core muscles, including the abdominal and back muscles, leading to improved stability and posture.
- Upper Body and Upper Back Strength: Many aerial yoga poses involve gripping and hanging from the hammock, which engages the muscles of the arms, shoulders, and upper back. This can lead to increased upper body strength and toning.
- Stress Relief and Mind-Body Connection: Aerial yoga combines physical movement with deep breathing and mindfulness, promoting a sense of relaxation and stress reduction. The support of the hammock can create a feeling of weightlessness, helping to release physical and mental tension and fostering a deeper mind-body connection.
- Circulation and Lymphatic Drainage: Inverted poses and gentle swings in aerial yoga can improve blood circulation and lymphatic flow. This can enhance the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the body’s tissues, as well as aid in the removal of waste and toxins.
- Increased Body Awareness and Confidence: Aerial yoga challenges practitioners to navigate and control their bodies in new ways, improving body awareness, coordination, and proprioception. As individuals progress in their practice, they often experience increased self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
